In a significant step toward strengthening grassroots economic empowerment and collaboration between government and the informal sector, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area and Chairman of Conference 57, Lagos State on Friday 13th February, 2026 inaugurated the new Executive Committee (Exco) members of the Lagos State Council of Traders and Artisans (LASCOTA).
The newly inaugurated Exco which will be led by Comrade Sesan Alase as Chairman. LASCOTA serves as the umbrella body representing registered trade associations, tradesmen, artisans, and related groups across Lagos State, advocating for their welfare, skills development, digital inclusion, and sustainable growth in line with the state’s vision for inclusive economic progress.
In his remarks during the inauguration, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa congratulated Comrade Sesan Alase and the entire Exco on their election and assumption of office. He charged them to lead with integrity, unity, and innovation while working closely with government at all levels to address the needs of traders and artisans.
“This inauguration marks a new chapter for LASCOTA and the thousands of hardworking tradesmen and artisans it represents,” Hon. Olowa stated. “Under Comrade Sesan Alase’s leadership, we expect renewed focus on empowerment, training, digital literacy, and collaboration to build a stronger, more resilient informal sector that contributes even more to Lagos State’s development.”
The new LASCOTA leadership expressed appreciation for the support and pledged to prioritize members’ welfare, foster peaceful coexistence among trade groups, and align with state initiatives for economic inclusion.
The inauguration ceremony underscored the vital role of traders and artisans in driving Lagos State’s economy and the ongoing commitment of local and state leadership to support this critical sector.
Present at the well-attended event were several distinguished dignitaries, including, Hon. Adewale Raheem Kazeem, Hon. Wasiu Olaomopo Aiyeola, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, Alhaja Mobi Raji, Alhaja Eshinlokun Elepete among other notable leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from various trade associations.
