Domestic and sexual violence are pervasive issues that affect millions of individuals worldwide, cutting across all demographics, including age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status. These forms of violence often occur in silence, hidden behind closed doors or societal stigma, making awareness and education critical to prevention, intervention, and support for survivors. The consequences of domestic and sexual violence are profound, affecting survivors, their families, and society at large in terms of physical and mental health, social and economic disruption and intergenerational effects as Children exposed to domestic violence are at higher risk of experiencing or perpetrating abuse later in life, perpetuating a cycle of trauma. As a Government, we will continue to educate the citizenry, support survivors:while we urge victims to speak out. Domestic and sexual violence thrive in silence, but awareness is a powerful tool for change. By educating ourselves, supporting survivors, and advocating for systemic change, we can create a world where safety, respect, and equality prevail. Together, we can break the cycle of violence and build stronger, safer communities for all. Hon. (Engr). Abdullahi Sesan Olowa Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government/ Conference 57 Chairman.
