SAHARA GROUP FOUNDATION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH IBEJU-LEKKI LG LAUNCHES WASTE TO WEALTH INITIATIVE

Residents to earn cash through Initiative The Sahara Group Foundation has launched its Sahara Go-Recycling Hub in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, as part of its broader waste-to-wealth initiative. This program, often referred to as a waste-to-wealth effort, empowers communities by allowing residents to exchange recyclable waste (such as plastics, paper, and other reusables) for cash rewards, fostering environmental sustainability, reducing pollution, creating economic opportunities, promoting a circular economy, and driving job creation and financial inclusion. Welcoming the stakeholders and participants, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa thanked the Sahara Group for this laudable initiative. He went down memory lane on the efforts the administration has put in place to ensure Environmental Sustainability as it was one of the key pillars of the government during his first term in office. Hon. Olowa expressed strong enthusiasm for the partnership, commending the Sahara Group Foundation for its consistent expansion of the recycling initiative across Lagos State. He highlighted how the hub will empower residents to turn waste into wealth, align with his administration's goals for a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Ibeju-Lekki, and support community-driven sustainability. Speaking further, the Council helmsman charged residents to take opportunity of this initiative of turning waste to wealth as it is another source of income. He called on Traditional rulers, Market Women and the Youth body to take it with all seriousness and ensure they make something good out of it. *How it works* Residents can bring their recyclable items to the designated Sahara Go Recycling hub at the Council Secretariat in Igando-Oloja and receive cash incentives in return. No prior registration fee is required as items accepted are clean plastic bottles, plastic containers, aluminum cans, nylon and so on. Payment can be done instantly or a digital wallet created as options of saving. You can recycle as often as you want as operating hours are from Monday to Friday.
