NIGERIA FOR WOMEN PROJECT SCALE-UP HOLDS SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME IN IBEJU-LEKKI

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government on Thursday 30th April, 2026 hosted a sensitization programme organized under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), aimed at empowering women and promoting financial inclusion at the grassroots. The programme, which drew a diverse audience including market women, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Religious bodies, Youth Councils, Baales-in-Council, artisans, and other key stakeholders, highlighted the importance of collective economic growth through cooperative structures. Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, welcomed the facilitators and participants. In his address, Hon. Adebanjo emphasized the significance of the initiative, describing it as a transformative platform designed to economically empower women. He noted that the cooperative model of the programme would not only encourage savings and access to financial resources but also foster unity and shared prosperity among members. He urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to community development. Also speaking at the event, the State Project Coordinator, Mrs. Shyllon Olufunke, expressed her appreciation to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for selecting Ibeju-Lekki as one of the pilot locations for the initiative. She reiterated the government’s commitment to uplifting women and reducing poverty through sustainable empowerment programmes. In further remarks, Mr. Ajibade Rasheed enlightened the audience on the inclusiveness of the programme. He explained that the initiative is open to women aged 18 years and above, regardless of tribe or religious affiliation. He stressed that the project is designed to break barriers of economic limitation, liberate women from financial hardship, and pave the way for long-term financial independence. The sensitization programme concluded with a call for active participation and collaboration among all stakeholders, as the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up continues to make impactful strides in enhancing the socio-economic well-being of women across communities.
