NIGERIA FOR WOMEN PROGRAM SCALE-UP (NFWP-SU) TEAM PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO CONFERENCE 57 CHAIRMAN

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, today Friday 24th April, 2026 received representatives of the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) during a courtesy visit to his office. The delegation, led by the Team Lead Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Salaam, provided an overview of the initiative, describing it as a Federal Government project aimed at empowering women economically and socially across the country. Speaking during the visit that included members of the Ibeju-Lekki Legislators, the Chief of Staff, Supervisors and Heads of Department, she explained that the program has been domesticated in Lagos State through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following the directive of the State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. As part of the pilot phase, the program will be implemented in three Local Government Areas: Alimosho, Apapa, and Ibeju-Lekki. According to Dr. Ahmed, one of the team representatives, the initiative targets women aged 18 years and above who are engaged in business activities. Beneficiaries will be organized into clusters known as Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, as participation is open to all women regardless of religion or ethnicity. He further highlighted the expected benefits of the program, which include increased household income, improved quality of life for participants, and accelerated socio-economic development within communities. In his response, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa who also doubles as the Conference 57 Chairman, expressed appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for initiating the program, as well as to the Lagos State Governor for ensuring its implementation at the grassroots level. Hon. Olowa noted that the objectives of the NFWP-SU align closely with his administration’s development agenda, particularly in the areas of women empowerment and community advancement. He assured the delegation of the Local Government’s readiness to collaborate fully with the team to ensure the successful execution of the program in Ibeju-Lekki. The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening partnerships that promote inclusive growth and sustainable development within the Local Government.
