NEWS FLASH: CHAIRMAN OLOWA LEADS CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL ROADSIDE TRADING

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji on Tuesday 26th August, 2025 led the Market Monitoring and Regulation Committee in an enforcement operation along the Lekki–Epe Expressway. The exercise targeted traders illegally occupying road setbacks and obstructing the free flow of traffic along the busy corridor. Addressing the operation, Hon. Olowa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives, ensuring road safety, and restoring orderliness to public spaces. While acknowledging the importance of commerce to community life, the Council Boss emphasized that trading activities must remain within designated markets that guarantee safety and convenience for both economic operators and the public. He urged traders to relocate into government-approved markets, warning that future violations would attract stiffer sanctions. The enforcement covered communities including Lakowe, Adeba, Ogunfayo, Awoyaya, Oribanwa, and Gbetu, where traders had encroached on setbacks and created hazards for motorists and pedestrians alike. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the local government to strengthen urban management, ease traffic congestion, and improve the quality of life in Ibeju-Lekki. In attendance were the Head of Department (Budget), officials from the Environment Department, representatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) team, and members of the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps (Folumo).
