MARKET INSPECTION AND SANITATION DRIVE:HON. OLOWA CHARGES TRADERS ON HYGIENE, CAUTIONS AGAINST ILLEGAL MARKET TRADING

An inspection exercise, carried out on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, by the Supervisor for Market and Revenue Hon. Ahmed Ajibola Elemoro today Tuesday 28th April, 2026 which covered Eleko Market, the ongoing Orimedu Market project currently under construction, and the Central Business District Market at Elesekan which are parts of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with environmental and trading regulations. During the visit to the Central Business District Market, Hon. Elemoro paid particular attention to the slaughter slab, where he engaged directly with butchers and meat sellers. He emphasized the critical importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, noting that the safety of consumables remains a top priority for the administration. He sensitized the butchers on best practices in meat handling and sanitation, urging them to uphold standards that protect public health. At the Orimedu Market site, the Supervisor assessed the level of progress and reiterated the Local Government’s commitment to delivering a modern, well-structured marketplace that will enhance commercial activities and improve traders’ welfare. The inspection team also visited Eleko Market, where traders were encouraged to cooperate with government regulations aimed at sustaining orderliness and cleanliness within the market environment. In a decisive move to enforce market regulations, Hon. Elemoro proceeded to the illegal market at Ogunfayo. Addressing the traders operating in the unauthorized location, he issued a directive mandating their immediate relocation to government-approved markets. He stressed that trading activities must only take place in recognized markets to ensure proper regulation, security, and access to essential facilities. The Hon. Olowa led administration reiterates its commitment to promoting organized trading systems, safeguarding public health, and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive across Ibeju-Lekki.
