LASG SET TO DRIVE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEVELOPMENT PLAN(LGDP)

CONFERENCE 57 CHAIRMAN APPRECIATES UNIFIED PLAN FOR ACCELERATED GROWTH The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa who also doubles as the Chairman of Conference 57 League of Chairmen attended the inauguration of the Technical Working Committee (TWC) on the LGDP, held on Thursday 16th April, 2026 at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development. The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry is set to cascade the Local Government Development Plan (LGDP) across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, disclosed this during the inauguration of the Committee. According to her, “the purpose of the Technical Working Committee (TWC) is to identify priorities, set targets, guide budgeting, attract development partners, and strengthen citizen participation at the grassroots level.” Mrs. Bolarinwa further explained that the LGDP will enhance the viability of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, while also creating visibility for their infrastructural projects and developmental initiatives. At the inauguration, the Chairman of Conference 57 and Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Engr. Sesan Olowa, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the initiative. He noted that the LGDP would help harmonize the various development plans of all Local Governments into a unified working document for infrastructural growth. He also assured that members of the committee would collaborate effectively with the Technical Working Committee to ensure the successful implementation of the Local Government Development Plan (LGDP). Also speaking at the event, the representative of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), Mr. Olowonisaye Saheed, described the LGDP as a long-awaited initiative, noting that the concept dates back to 2014. He explained that the Ministry had previously worked with Planning Units across LGAs and LCDAs on various development documents within the State. He added that the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget is ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, as well as other critical stakeholders, towards the successful formulation and implementation of the Local Government Development Plan (LGDP). Also in attendance were representatives of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, the Body of Council Managers, and the Body of Heads of Departments (HODs) for Planning and Budget across LGAs and LCDAs. Others included the Director of Local Administration in the Ministry, as well as other staff members of the Ministry.
