LAGOS STATE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BOARD (LSPHCB) AND PARTNERS PAY COURTESY VISIT TO CHAIRMAN OF CONFERENCE 57, HON. ABDULLAHI SESAN OLOWA, ON UPCOMING MEASLES-RUBELLA INTEGRATED CAMPAIGN, RETREAT, AND PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PRIORITIES

A delegation from the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), led by its Permanent Secretary and supported by key partners including UNICEF, WHO, and other immunization stakeholders on 9th January, 2026 paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Conference of 57 Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa. The visit focused on rallying support for the upcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) Integrated Vaccination Campaign scheduled to commence in January 2026 across Lagos State, as part of the national Phase 2 rollout targeting southern states. The delegation led by Dr. Temitope Balogun-Alo, Director, Health Planning, Research and Statistics briefed Hon. Olowa on the campaign's objectives: to vaccinate millions of children aged 9 months to 14 years against measles and rubella, two highly contagious diseases that pose significant risks including blindness, brain damage, and congenital defects. The team also discussed the planned retreat for the Conference of 57 Chairmen, aimed at enhancing governance capacity and aligning local government efforts with state health priorities. Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who also serves as Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, welcomed the delegation warmly and pledged the full support of the Conference of 57. He emphasized the critical role of local governments in grassroots mobilization and assured collaboration to ensure the campaign's success across all 57 councils. "The health of our children is the foundation of Lagos' future," Hon. Olowa stated. "We are committed to partnering with LSPHCB and development partners to protect every eligible child and strengthen PHC delivery at the local level." The LSPHCB team expressed appreciation for the Chairman's leadership and reiterated the importance of unified action to achieve high vaccination coverage and sustain Lagos State's progress toward measles and rubella elimination goals.
