19/05/2026 Officials of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, led by Mr. Akinkunmi Akinpelu, today visited Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to officially flag off the deployment of street sweepers tasked with clearing sand spillages deposited on roadsides by heavy-duty trucks operating within the axis. Representing the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka, commended the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Environment, and the Special Adviser on Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Abiola Okanlawon Olowu, for the strong collaboration between the State Government and the Local Government in ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for residents. Speaking during the programme, the Director from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Akinkunmi Akinpelu, appreciated the Local Government for its cooperation and support towards the initiative. He charged the newly engaged street sweepers to carry out their duties diligently, stressing that there would be zero tolerance for sand spillages on roads across the Local Government area. According to him, the responsibility of maintaining cleaner roads now rests heavily on the commitment and dedication of the sweepers to ensure that roads affected by activities of heavy-duty trucks remain safe and motorable for all road users. Also speaking at the event, the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, assured the sweepers of the Local Government’s continuous support and encouragement. He further urged them to take their responsibilities seriously and remain committed to effective service delivery. The programme concluded with remarks from one of the supervisors of the street sweepers, Mrs. Oye Elizabeth, who expressed gratitude to the government officials for the opportunity provided through the initiative. She noted that the employment programme has positively impacted many families by creating a reliable source of livelihood, while assuring the government that the sweepers would carry out their duties with utmost dedication and respect. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to promote environmental cleanliness, road safety, and sustainable community development within Ibeju-Lekki and its environs.
