The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, on 22nd November, 2025 led the official flag-off of the rehabilitation of the vandalized 33KV overhead power line from Ibeju Long Bridge to Okegun Madagbayun, covering a distance of 5 kilometers, in Okegun Odofin community. The well-attended event had in attendance community leaders, residents, youth groups, and a high-powered delegation from Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) led by Mrs. Obilanade and Engr. Olaopa alongside the appointed contractors. Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa expressed delight at the commencement of the critical infrastructure project, noting that reliable electricity remains a top priority of his administration. He thanked EKEDC for its partnership and swift response in mobilizing resources for the rehabilitation. The Chairman charged the Okegun Odofin community and other communities to take full ownership of the restored facility by protecting the cables and other installations from vandalism. “This power line belongs to you. Guard it jealously. Any act of vandalism is an attack on your own progress and development,” Hon. Olowa emphatically stated. Representatives of EKEDC and the contracting firm assured the Chairman and the community that work will commence immediately and will be executed to the highest standard, with a commitment to timely completion. Community leaders present pledged total support and cooperation, promising to mobilize vigilance groups to secure the infrastructure round the clock. The rehabilitation of the 33KV line is expected to restore stable electricity supply to Okegun Odofin, Okegun Madagbayun, and surrounding communities, boosting economic activities and improving the quality of life of residents.
