The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has extended its emergency flood response to Shapati, with drainage excavation works now underway as part of the coordinated intervention programme announced by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.
The ongoing excavation covers the stretch from Shapati Junction to the Igbijia Shapati Primary Canal and is aimed at restoring the free flow of stormwater, easing flooding within the community and improving the efficiency of the area's drainage network.
This intervention also serves as a critical preparatory step for the permanent drainage project earlier announced by the Executive Chairman, reinforcing the administration's commitment to delivering both immediate relief and lasting infrastructure solutions.
The commencement of works in Shapati follows closely on the heels of similar emergency interventions in other affected communities, demonstrating the Council's resolve to implement its flood response plan with urgency and consistency.
As operations continue, technical teams will remain on the ground to monitor progress and deploy additional resources where required. The Local Government will sustain these interventions while extending similar works to other flood-prone communities in phases.
