The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has announced the temporary suspension of all dredging activities across the Local Government Area following preliminary findings linking indiscriminate dredging to the flooding affecting several communities.
The decision followed a joint inspection with officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which revealed significant environmental degradation and damage to public infrastructure.
Hon. Olowa stated that the suspension is a precautionary measure pending a comprehensive review of dredging operations to ensure compliance with environmental standards and the protection of lives, communities, and critical infrastructure.
He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability, while urging residents to remain calm and support ongoing government efforts.
