IBEJU-LEKKI LG DECLARES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR MOTORCYCLES ON HIGHWAYS

As Enforcement Operation Led by Supervisor Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan Restores Order and Enhances Road Safety The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Administration has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to public safety, traffic order, and environmental sanity by declaring zero tolerance for the operation of commercial motorcycles (popularly known as okada) on major highways within the council area on Thursday 12th March, 2026. In a decisive enforcement exercise conducted across key locations in the Ibeju-Lekki axis, officials successfully cleared expressways of unauthorized okada and keke riders, along with other forms of road obstructions. The operation was personally led by Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, Supervisor for Environment and Waste Management, under the directive of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa. "Road safety is non-negotiable," said Supervisor Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan during the operation. "Our highways are meant for safe, efficient movement of people and goods. We will not allow reckless violations that endanger lives and disrupt order. This zero-tolerance stance will be sustained through continuous monitoring and enforcement." Recall that, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government recently signed the Okada and Tricycle Regulation and Control Bye-Law No. 005/2025 (and others in Feb 2026) to enforce mandatory registration, proper identification, and compliance with traffic safety rules for all commercial motorcycles. The Local Government administration remains dedicated to collaborative efforts with state authorities to maintain law and order across all roads in line with the existing laws of the land.
