Demonstrating his administration's commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, on Monday 6th July, 2026 undertook an extensive inspection of communities severely impacted by the ongoing flooding, assuring affected residents that government will not stand by while they endure the devastating effects of the disaster.
The inspection commenced at the Ibeju-Agbe Long Bridge, where the Chairman observed heavy sand deposits covering a significant portion of the bridge and posing a serious risk to motorists and other road users. Disturbed by the condition of the bridge, he immediately directed that the Local Government's Bobcat be deployed to clear the accumulated sand and restore safe access.
The Chairman subsequently visited Abule-Pan and the NNPC Road corridor, where floodwaters have disrupted movement and affected adjoining communities. Following an on-the-spot assessment, he directed that immediate palliative measures be introduced to ease the suffering of residents while engineers commence the design of a permanent drainage solution to permanently address the recurring challenge.
At Desa Community, the inspection revealed that blocked secondary drainage canals had significantly worsened the flooding. Hon. Olowa directed the immediate desilting and reopening of the waterways to restore the free flow of stormwater and minimise further damage to homes and surrounding infrastructure.
The tour continued to Bogije, where the Chairman assessed the impact of the flooding on residential neighbourhoods and road networks. Interacting with residents, he acknowledged the anxiety and hardship the situation has caused, assuring them that their concerns would receive urgent government attention.
At Kajola Community, the Chairman directed the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, to immediately commence the clearing of blocked drainage channels within the community, including the critical drainage link between Kajola and Bogije, in order to improve water discharge and reduce the risk of further flooding.
The Chairman also inspected the Primary Health Care Centre, where floodwaters had affected parts of the facility. Concerned about the implications for healthcare delivery, he assured health workers and residents that immediate protective measures would be implemented to safeguard the facility while plans for a permanent intervention are expedited.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Olowa said the distress experienced by many residents calls for swift and decisive action.

Our administration remains fully committed to protecting lives, preserving livelihoods and ensuring that our communities become more resilient to environmental challenges."_
The Chairman also appealed to residents to support government efforts by refraining from indiscriminate waste disposal and ensuring that drainage channels are not obstructed, noting that environmental sustainability requires collective responsibility.
He reaffirmed that while emergency interventions will commence immediately across the affected communities, his administration remains focused on implementing sustainable flood control infrastructure that will provide lasting relief and strengthen the resilience of communities throughout Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
