HON. OLOWA FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF ULTRA-MODERN MARKET IN ORIMEDU COMMUNITY

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government today Monday 20th April, 2026 officially flagged off the construction of a new ultra-modern market in Orimedu Community, marking a significant milestone in the council’s commitment to infrastructure development and improved livelihoods for residents. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Executive Chairman took a trip down memory lane, recalling that the original market was constructed in 1996 by the then Sole Administrator, His Excellency Alhaji Bode Oyedele. He noted that the rapid growth in population and economic activities in Orimedu over the years has made the existing facility inadequate, necessitating the construction of a new, modern market equipped with standard facilities. “The construction of this ultra-modern market is not just about providing a trading space; it is a strategic step towards the overall development of Orimedu and the entire Ibeju-Lekki Local Government,” the Chairman stated. “This project will serve as a model, and similar markets will soon be constructed across other communities in the council area.” He appealed to the youths and all residents of the community to cooperate fully with the contractors and government officials throughout the duration of the project, emphasizing that the market will create direct and indirect jobs as well as boost economic services for the people. The Supervisor for Market and Revenue, Hon. Ajibola Elemoro in his welcome address expressed optimism that the infrastructure will not only bring development to the Orimedu community but also drive in revenue. In his remarks, His Excellency Alhaji Bode Oyedele, a foremost leader in the area, commended the current administration for the initiative and charged the community to give maximum support to the government. He assured residents that other government assets and infrastructure across the Local Government will also receive due attention in the near future. The construction contract has been awarded to DESTONES ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, with a completion timeline of six (6) months. The Executive Chairman expressed confidence that the new market will enhance commercial activities, improve revenue generation for the council, and significantly raise the standard of living of the people of Orimedu and its environs. Present at the flag off ceremony are, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Oluwafemi Olayinka and the entire Councilors, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo and the entire Supervisors, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Maruf Issa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abidemi Toheeb Yisa, the Onimedu of Orimedu, the CDC Chairman, Comrade Jabita Adeboye amongst others.
