Less than 24 hours after unveiling the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government's emergency flood response plan, emergency intervention works have commenced in Bogije Community, the first of several locations captured under the Council's coordinated flood response programme on the 13th July, 2026
As announced by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Council has successfully deployed its newly procured 15-horsepower submersible pumping machine, which is now actively evacuating trapped floodwater from the Bogije drainage system. At the same time, a backhoe has been mobilised to clear blocked drainage channels, remove accumulated silt and restore the free flow of stormwater.
Together, these interventions represent the first major phase of the Council's emergency response in Bogije, combining immediate floodwater evacuation with drainage clearance to improve the efficiency of the drainage network and reduce the impact of flooding on residents, businesses and critical road infrastructure within the community.
The Executive Chairman has directed that the operation be sustained until the immediate objective is achieved, while technical teams continue to monitor progress and deploy additional resources where necessary. Similar interventions, as outlined in yesterday's flood response update, will continue across other affected communities in phases as the Council intensifies efforts to address the flooding challenge.
While emergency operations are ongoing, the Local Government remains actively engaged with the Lagos State Government and relevant Federal Government agencies on the broader interventions required to strengthen drainage infrastructure and enhance flood resilience across Ibeju-Lekki.
