The Ibeju-Lekki Council of Obas and Chiefs on the 16th June, 2026 held a security engagement with the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government to review security developments within the Local Government and discuss ongoing efforts aimed at sustaining peace, stability and public safety across our communities.
During the engagement, the Chairman briefed the Council on recent security developments across the country, ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and Lagos State Government to strengthen security architecture, and measures being implemented within Ibeju-Lekki to enhance community safety.
The Council was also updated on the Local Government's response to recent security concerns within the Ibeju-Lekki axis, including engagements with relevant security agencies, intelligence gathering efforts and coordinated measures taken to reassure residents and safeguard communities.
The Chairman highlighted several security interventions already undertaken by the Local Government, including the deployment of 71 security officers across 28 public primary schools under the School Security Programme, facilitation of the upgrade of the Eleko Beach Police Post to a full Police Division, donation of a patrol vehicle to the Division and support for patrol operations within the Local Government.
The engagement further provided an opportunity to outline key initiatives that will strengthen security and community resilience across Ibeju-Lekki in the coming months.
These include support for the establishment of a dedicated Police Task Force for School Monitoring under Area J Command; strengthening of the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps through the establishment of Ward Vigilante Structures and Forest Guards in line with the directive of the Lagos State Government; the launch of the Ibeju-Lekki Career Accelerator Programme to provide training and development opportunities for over 1,000 young people through partnerships with Genzaar, African Fintech Foundry (AFF), GIZ and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment; deeper engagement with stakeholder communities across the Local Government; intensified anti-drug abuse and anti-cultism advocacy; sustained enforcement of public safety regulations; and continued investment in educational infrastructure.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for the royal fathers to share perspectives from their various communities and discuss practical ways of strengthening collaboration with government and security agencies in the interest of peace and public safety.
The meeting highlighted the fact that security is most effective when communities, traditional institutions and security agencies work together. Participants emphasised the need for continued vigilance, responsible information sharing and sustained collaboration in safeguarding lives, property and critical infrastructure across Ibeju-Lekki.
The engagement concluded with a shared understanding that maintaining the peace and stability of Ibeju-Lekki requires continued cooperation among traditional institutions, government, security agencies and residents. Participants emphasised that vigilance, timely information sharing and community partnership remain essential to sustaining the safe and secure environment required for the continued growth and development of the Local Government.
