The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has successfully evacuated the refuse heap recently discovered along the federal highway near Akodo General Hospital, following the directive of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.
The prompt intervention has restored cleanliness to the area and forms part of the Local Government's ongoing commitment to maintaining a healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly community.
While commending residents who continue to support sanitation efforts, the Council has reiterated its warning against indiscriminate waste disposal. Dumping refuse on highways, drainage channels, beaches, and other public spaces not only defaces the environment but also poses serious health and environmental risks.
Residents are therefore encouraged to utilize approved waste management channels, including registered PSP operators, LAWMA services, the Ibeju-Lekki Waste Collection Operation, and the Local Government's fleet of waste compactors available for waste evacuation.
The Local Government emphasized that maintaining a clean and sustainable environment is a shared responsibility and urged all residents to play their part in keeping Ibeju-Lekki clean and attractive. The Council also noted that individuals found engaging in illegal waste disposal will be sanctioned in accordance with existing environmental laws.
