In response to the recent flooding that affected residents and impacted properties in Akodo, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, on Monday 20th July, 2026 visited the community to assess the situation and engage directly with affected residents.
During the visit, the Chairman expressed concern over the challenges faced by the people and assured residents of the Local Government's commitment to addressing issues affecting the community. He disclosed that following the end of the rainy season, the Council will commence necessary interventions aimed at improving road stability and drainage conditions in the affected areas to enhance water flow and reduce the impact of flooding.
Hon. Olowa, while acknowledging the environmental factors contributing to the flooding, appealed to residents to complement government efforts by adopting responsible waste disposal practices. He noted that the Council has continued to invest significantly in environmental sanitation, including the evacuation of waste around the Akodo General Hospital, yet indiscriminate dumping of refuse persists.
He urged residents to desist from dumping waste in drainage paths and unauthorized locations, stressing that environmental protection requires a collective effort between the government and the community.
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration's commitment under the SHIEELD Agenda to improving infrastructure, strengthening environmental management, and ensuring the wellbeing of residents remains a priority.
The visit reflects the administration's proactive approach to responding to community concerns, engaging residents directly, and pursuing sustainable solutions for a safer and more resilient Ibeju-Lekki.
