The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has commissioned the 900-metre Lakowe-Losoro-Lagasa Road, delivering another major infrastructure project under the administration's SHIEELD Agenda.
Executed in three sections comprising 350 metres in Section One, 80 metres in Section Two and 470 metres in Section Three, the road provides an improved link between Lakowe, Losoro, Lagasa and adjoining communities, replacing a previously difficult corridor with infrastructure designed to support movement and local economic activity.
Speaking at the commissioning, Chairman Olowa said the project demonstrates his administration's determination to respond to the practical needs of residents with projects that have direct and lasting value.
He noted that the road will improve the movement of people, goods and services while strengthening access to the commercial activities and opportunities emerging across Ibeju-Lekki.
Chairman Olowa also acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration in strengthening the financial capacity of Local Governments through increased allocations, noting that the improved fiscal environment has given grassroots administrations greater capacity to respond to community needs.
According to him, the value of national reforms is ultimately seen in what they make possible at the grassroots.
"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given Local Governments a stronger financial foundation to work with, and we must use that opportunity responsibly to deliver for our people. As the President himself said, 'Renewed Hope was never charity. It is the right of every Nigerian to a place called home.' For us at the grassroots, that Renewed Hope must be seen in the roads we build, the communities we connect and the lives we improve."
The Chairman said the Lakowe-Losoro-Lagasa Road represents that principle in action, turning public resources into an infrastructure asset that residents can see, use and benefit from.
He urged residents to protect the road and ensure that its drainage infrastructure remains clear, stressing that preserving public infrastructure is a shared responsibility between government and the communities it serves.
The Vice Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji who also serves as the Supervisor for Works, spoke on the execution of the project, highlighting the condition of the road before intervention and the work undertaken to deliver the completed corridor.
He commended O2's Development Services Nigeria Limited, the contractor, and the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Works and Infrastructure Department, which supervised the project, for their roles in bringing the project to completion.
Also present at the commissioning was the Lagos State House of Assembly candidate for Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I, Hon. Abiola Olowu Okanlawon, who commended the administration for delivering infrastructure with direct impact on residents and spoke on the importance of sustained development to the growth of the constituency.
Chairman Olowa expressed profound appreciation to the residents and community leaders of Lakowe, Losoro, Lagasa and adjoining communities for the cooperation and goodwill extended throughout the execution of the project.
He paid special tribute to His Royal Majesty, the Ojomu of Lakowe, Oba Abdulhakeem Olusegun Adisa whose leadership, wisdom and support contributed immensely to the peaceful execution and successful completion of the road. The Chairman also acknowledged the traditional institution for its continued partnership with the Local Government, noting that the confidence and cooperation of royal fathers remain invaluable to the successful implementation of development projects at the grassroots.
He commended His Royal Majesty for providing the leadership and community support that helped move the project from a community need to a completed public asset.
The commissioning brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, residents, government officials, political stakeholders and other guests who witnessed the formal opening of the road.
The completed Lakowe-Losoro-Lagasa Road is another tangible expression of the SHIEELD Agenda, delivering improved access to the benefiting communities and strengthening the infrastructure base of a rapidly growing Ibeju-Lekki.
