2ND CHAIRMAN'S CUP TOURNAMENT COMPETITION: OLOWA PROMOTE SPORT TALENTS AMONGST IBEJU-LEKKI YOUTHS

It was the gathering of sports enthusiast and lovers of the round leather game of Football at the grand finale and closing ceremony of the 2nd Edition of the Annual Chairman's Cup Tournament Competition held on 30th November, 2024.This year edition organized strictly for under 16 Football and Track racing talents across ibeju-lekki communities and environs. The Tournament which comprised of 16 Teams across ibeju-Lekki Local Government was aimed at discovering and promoting sport talents amongst youths and to foster unity and harmonious relationship within ibeju-lekki communities and environment. The Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa while addressing the gathering stressed the need to nurture sport talents amongst youths by providing diverse platforms where these talents and skills can be showcase to the state, Nigeria and world at large, hence the reason behind the Annual Chairman's Cup initiative. The Mayor further expressed profound gratitude to sponsors, coaches and Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for supporting the Vision and working relentlessly to ensure the success of the Annual Chairman's Cup Tournament. Hon. Olushola Edalere, the Special Adviser on Agric and Social Services while speaking at the gathering expressed appreciation to the Mayor for the laudable initiative which is aimed at promoting and showcasing sport talents via such initiative as Chairman's Cup Tournament Competition. The Grand Finale of the Football Competition Award was closely contested by Onidogbo Football club and Iba Oloja Football club, however the later humbled their counterpart team with a 4 goals to 1 victory, after the 90 minutes thrilling moment of the match. Thirty three youths were randomly selected based on their performance and were awarded Free membership of ibeju-lekki Football Academy, an academy which the Mayor planned to set up to promote sporting activities and talents. Present at the event were the Executive Chairman and Executive Members, Royal Fathers, youths across ibeju-lekki communities, sports enthusiasts, Dignitaries from state amongst several others.
