The vision of the Lagos State Government in transforming Ibeju-Lekki to a world class model city is fast becoming a reality, as the commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Olukayode Olumide was at Lekki LCDA to hold a final stakeholders meeting on the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa appreciated the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the rapid infrastructural development of Ibeju-Lekki, a product of deliberate work, efforts and strategy.
Further speaking, Hon. Olowa acknowledged that indeed, the concerns of the people about the proposed development plan will be addressed by the stakeholders meeting and therefore requested for a month extension for the two Local Governments to make official submission to the Ministry. The Executive Chairman is of the belief that the master plan will meet the aspirations of the people of Ibeju-Lekki as he asked for the support of the people while assuring them that the Government will defend their interests.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Authority, Hon. Razaq Bamidele Kasali affirmed that, the model city plan is indeed a blessing as Ibeju-Lekki is now a reference point. While calling on the people to make positive and constructive contributions, he used the moment to appreciate the Governor and called for continued support for the administration.
The honourable commissioner, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide affirmed that, various inspections have been carried out in the past with the intention of looking into the emerging challenges in order to proffer solutions. This he said, was to have a Novel city plan with special focus of making Lagos a 21st century attraction. He highlighted the objectives of the model city plan as
– setting strategy for effective planning and control
– for sustainable growth and development.
– to help in providing development for regional planning
There was a session of presentation of the Ibeju-Lekki Model City plan which was handled by Tpl. Moses Ogunleye as there was also the question and answer session as well.
Special dignitaries at the event were HRM, Oba Ebenezer Oyiri, the Onise of Ise, HRM Adegbin of Lepia, Oba Ismail Adeleke Akibu, officials of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development amongst other dignitaries.
