The administration of Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa has taken another bold step in its drive to deliver critical infrastructure, with the official flag-off of the 400-metre Lakowe–Losoro Link Road. The groundbreaking event, held opposite the Lakowe Central Mosque, brought together traditional rulers, legislative leaders, community associations, and enthusiastic residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, who represented the Executive Chairman, described the road as a long-awaited intervention that will finally tackle persistent flooding, improve access to the Lakowe Market Square and the Community Health Centre, and unlock new economic opportunities for local businesses.
In a message delivered on behalf of the Chairman, Hon. Olowa noted: “This road has for years been a source of hardship to commuters and residents. Today, we begin to change that story. Beyond concrete and asphalt, this project represents inclusiveness and shared progress. I urge the good people of Lakowe and Losoro to protect this investment—it belongs to us all.”
Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka, echoed this sentiment, stressing that Lakowe residents have endured poor access roads for too long, especially during the rainy season. He assured the community that “better days are here,” calling for collective support to ensure smooth execution.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulhakeem Adisa Olusegun, the Ojomu of Lakowe, commended the local government for prioritizing developmental projects. He pledged the cooperation of the traditional institution and urged residents to safeguard construction equipment and embrace the project as their own.
Other goodwill messages came from the new Divisional Police Officer, CSP Sulaiman Kabir; CDA Chairman, Mr. Erinfolami; and the Executive Director of O2’s Development Services Ltd., contractors for the project. Each underscored the importance of security, community ownership, and timely delivery.
Local residents also expressed joy. Mrs. Khadijat Eleku, a trader in Lakowe, remarked: “This link road will open our community to new opportunities. Customers can now reach us more easily, and that means growth for small businesses.”
