SAFEGUARDING COMMUNITIES: OLOWA INSPECTS CLEARED PRIMARY CANALS AT ALAKUN, BABA-ADISA AND AIYETEJU COMMUNITIES

The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, on Monday 25th August 2025, embarked on an inspection of ongoing flood mitigation works in Alakun and Aiyeteju communities.

The inspection covered drainage clearance projects where swamp excavators have been deployed to decongest blocked water channels and canals. The intervention is designed to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater into the right outlets, thereby reducing the risks of flooding, erosion, and damage to lives and property within the communities.

The exercise forms part of the local government’s proactive environmental management strategy to address flooding, which has been a recurring challenge in many parts of Ibeju-Lekki during the rainy season. By keeping critical water channels open and functional, the administration aims to safeguard residential areas, improve sanitation, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Accompanying the Chairman on the inspection were the Chief Technical Adviser on Environment, Mr. Lateef Ajumobi; the CTA on Media and Communication, Mr. Yemi Azeez; Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Mr. Adewale Moore; representative of the Environment Department, Mr. Kolapo Olabode; and the CDA Chairman, Mr. Agbaji Olushola. Their presence highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, which combines technical expertise, administrative oversight, and community partnership.
