IBEJU-LEKKI WASTE MANAGEMENT INITIATIVE, OLOWA INTRODUCES A MODEL FOR ENHANCING EFFECTIVE REFUSE DISPOSAL.

Ibeju-Lekki Local Government hosted a stakeholders’ consultative meeting where the pragmatic Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa intimated all opinion leaders present at the occasion on the new plan and mode of refuse collection, transportation to be introduced through the Waste Management Initiative.

Hon. Olowa stated that the plan of the Local Government on carting of refuse includes the use of branded Tricycle for door to door evacuation of refuse to its final destination which is the proposed Material Recovery Facility to be built by LAWMA in Ibeju Lekki Council Area.

This initiative will not only provide easy accessibility to refuse, it will in no little way compliment the effort of PSP Operators in getting refuse from inner streets to its final destination taking into cognisance the sandy nature of communities within the area.

The Council Mayor further emphasised on the necessity of the initiative which aims at ensuring all communities within the Local Government is free of indiscriminate refuse dumping and unauthorised dump sites as it is the usual practice.

He, however, solicited for the support of Traditional Rulers, CDC/CDA, Market Men and Women and other major players while reacting and clearing the air on one of the questions raised that every community including people of the Coastal areas will benefit from this project.

The Council Chairman also assured the people that the amount to be paid for waste collection services will be reasonable for everyone to benefit.

In another development at the occasion, the august gathering seized the opportunity to trash the issue of perpetual darkness being experienced by the people of the area because of lack of Electricity.
“This is a major concern for all stakeholders that requires drastic measures and an headlong approach in engaging the power company, EKEDC for the restoration of light in Ibeju-Lekki and adjoining communities suffering the same fate “Mayor Olowa said.

The Chairman further promised that his Administration and other constituted delegates on the matter will continue to engage the power company and will not relent until the Electricity problem is solved.

Hon. Aliasau Oladehinde, SA on Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Wakilat Odupe, SA on Civic Engagement, Chief Safuraini Raji, the Chairman, Council of Baales, Comrade Jabita, CDC Chairman,
Market Men and Women, the HOD, Environmental Services and other Management Members among others.
