IBEJU-LEKKI LG. FLAGS OFF, STARTS ADMINISTRATION OF THE HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS (HPV) IMMUNIZATION

The Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa who was ably represented by the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Tajudeen Oniwonlu today Monday 30th October, 2023 officially flagged off the Human Papilloma Virus Immunization Programme at the Elemoro Junior Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The Council Mayor in his address commended the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board and other external partners like Unicef, World Health Organisation (WHO) and others for nipping the spread of Cervical Cancer in the bud through this statewide Human Papilloma Virus Immunization Programme for girls of ages 9 to 14 years.

Hon. Olowa reiterated on the safety of the HPV Vaccine on humans and also enjoined Parents and Guardians to submit their Female Children and Wards of stipulated ages for Immunization.
The HPV Immunization is not only a way of reducing high mortality rate in girls, it is a way of stopping the spread of Cervical Cancer in girls and women, the Council Chair said.

However, as a proactive move and a way of ensuring the effectiveness of the HPV Immunization campaign and exercise, the Head of Department of Health of the Local Government, Dr. Kehinde Ososanya and his team yesterday Sunday 29th October, 2023 embarked on mobilisation and awareness campaign round the Council Area informing residents of designated venues to get the HPV Vaccines; these places include All Primary Health Centres, Hospitals, Schools, Churches Schools, Markets and other designated posts within the Local Government.
The Local Government Health personnel also had the Day-1 Review Meeting today to discuss the level of compliance and acceptance of the laudable HPV Immunization exercise by the people as well as what to be expected in the few more days of the Immunization.

The programme kicked off today Monday, 30th October and will end on the Friday, 3rd November 2023.

It is important to protect the Female Children and Women from the menace of Cervical Cancer.
