IBEJU-LEKKI LOCAL GOVERNMENT YEAR 2023 BUDGET OF ‘ECONOMIC  DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH’ RETREAT

It was a rigorous and interactive sessions at the just concluded Ibeju-Lekki Local Government 3-Day  Year 2023 Budget Retreat presided over by her dogged, pragmatic and vibrant Executive Chairman Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.

The Proposed Year 2023 Budget of “Economic Development and Sustainable Growth” encapsulated both the Income and Expenditure to be alloted to various Departments, Units and other relevant sectors to enable the Council Area prepare adequately for the channelling of Recurrent and Capital Expenditures  for the fiscal year.

The review of the performance of the Year 2022 Budget was done the first day by the Head of Budget, Planning and Statistic, Mrs Olubunkola Fagbemi while adequate amendments, suggestions and solutions were proffered especially on Revenue Generation in preparation for the Year 2023 Budget.

An erudite lecturer, Administration Guru and reknown Financial Expert, Dr. Badejo Olusoga who was the facilitator for the Day 2 lecture took the participants through the process of Budget Re-ordering, Supplementary Budget and the importance of compliance in other for the Council Area to have a hitch free and workable Budget on Year 2023.

The facilitator while appreciating the Executive Chairman and other Council Personnels for being given an opportunity to speak at the occasion applauded the Olowa Administration for achieving so much  in a short time while also using the opportunity to say how lucky Ibeju-Lekki Local Government is to be blessed with  much revenue and natural resources which needs to be adequately harnessed.

Dr. Badejo also spoke on the process of voucher retirements in order to avoid queries from the State Auditors. He, however advised the Local Government on the disadvantages of franchising the Local Government Internally Generated Revenue while also reiterating on the need for Revenue Staff to be up and doing.

Several questions  were also raised by participants at the end of the session.

Hon. Olowa in his remark to the lecture reiterated on the commitment of his Administration to strictly align with lay down guidelines as stipulated by the State while also commending the facilitor for doing justice to issues raised. The Council Boss, however hinted on future engagement of Dr. Badejo because of his versatility on budgetary and financial acumen.

Hon. Olowa who  presided over the defence of Departmental and Units’ Budgetary allocations for Year 2023 by all Heads also reiterated on strict compliance with financial provisions and allocation of programmes to various quarters.

The 3-Day Year 2023 Budget Retreat ended with funfare while all participants mingled, wined and dined to celebrate the success of the Retreat.

Other Participants at the Year 2023 Budget Retreat were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka Oluwafemi, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, other Executive Members, the Council Manager, Engr. (Mrs.) Akitoye Olubunmi, other Management Team, Sub Unit Heads, other Political Appointees amongst others.
