NIGERIA AT 62, MAYOR OLOWA PENS HIS THOUGHTS

Fellow compatriots, 1st October, 2022 marks the 62nd anniversary of the independence of Nigeria from British colonial rule. We thank Almighty God for preserving the country this far. This is a day to celebrate 62 years of eventful nationhood, a day to remember and honor our founding fathers whose collective valour, labour and toil won for us this enviable identity as free citizens of a sovereign state. Above all it is a day to deeply reflect on our torturous evolutionary trajectory as a nation and to further recommit ourselves to the patriotic values of nation building, good governance, democracy and the rule of law. Nigeria and Nigerians should be proud of our resilience in the face of daunting challenges. Not many nations of the world would survive the storm and existential hurdles our dear nation has gone through . Yet we have remained a strong, virile and united country with vast capacities for greatness. At 62 , one of our major drawbacks since Independence is the inability of our political system, especially @ the national level to throw up and sustain an extended spell of progressive leadership capable of parlaying our rich endowments to national prosperity and enduring wealth for the abiding well being of Nigerians. It is however gratifying to note that we are on the threshold of yet another defining moment in the history of our country. 2023 presents a new opportunity for us to choose the right leader to pilot the ship of our nation. I call on all to exercise their inalienable rights in a manner that is devoid of emotions and elect a leader with tested capacity, rich experience, matchless exposure and verifiable track record of leadership excellence across various spheres of human endeavors. This is no other person than Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC). He is the man we need at this moment. Ladies and Gentlemen, I must acknowledge that despite the unrelenting efforts of the Federal Government, our country today is plagued with myriad of challenges the most prominent of which is Insecurity and its deleterious impact on individuals and households. I enjoin us not to despair, let us as good citizens continue to support the government and our armed forces to face down this palpable threat to lives and livelihoods, the defeat of which will mark the glorious rebirth and renaissance of our dear native land. Happy Independence Anniversary to you All. May God bless Nigeria. Signed: Hon.(Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
