Ibeju-Lekki Local Government on Thursday 14th July, 2022 observed the year 2022 Tree Planting
Exercise theme “Harmony with the Nature.
The exercise which was simultaneously done in all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas within the State as it is tradition.
In his welcome address, the Council’s Executive Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa who was ably represented by the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Sofwan Ogungbo Temitope warmly welcomed His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat who was represented by a Director of LASPARK, Mrs Elizabeth Akinjide.
The Council Chairman commended past Lagos State Administrations who have kept the Tree Planting tradition for the past fifteen(15) years while also applauding His Excellency, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State for imbibing the spirit of purifying nature through greenery environment.
Hon. Olowa also reiterated on the commitment of his Administration in ensuring trees are planted regularly within the Council Area to combat the menace of Erosion and Environmental degradation as well as for aesthetics purposes.
In the Deputy Governor’s keynote address read by the LASPARK Director in attendance, emphasis was laid on the need for all hands to be on deck for everyone to improve our impact on nature to prevent climatic changes that is globally affecting the world.
In the same vein, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat also addressed the role of stakeholders in stabilizing the Environmental health of individuals and nature in general.
“There is clearly no more time to waste if we want to restore hope for the present and future generations…all of us, as societies, companies and individuals must make conscious effort to live in harmony with nature”. Various species of trees were planted by dignitaries consisting of Executive Members, Legislators, Management Team, Royal Fathers, Party Chieftains, Youth Representatives amongst others.
