Ibeju-Lekki Local Government today Wednesday  1st December, 2021 hosted the annual Block Farmers Field Day where various farm produce were on display and farmers within the Council area seized the opportunity to thank God for the end of the planting season and the outgoing year 2021.

In his opening address, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa warmly welcomed dignitaries and participants at the occasion and congratulated them for their hard work which has brought about the exhibition of their farm produce.

He reiterated that the Council area can be considered one of the area with the largest Agrarian Communities providing farm produce for residents and surrounding towns and villages, bearing in mind that the expanse of land the Local Government is blessed with should be maximally utilised for the benefit of the masses and not unlikely to strive to be the provider of food for the Nation.

Hon. Olowa emphasised his commitment to empower the farmers community through the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) loan project newly created by his Administration which will also commence registration of interested Traders, Farmers and Artisans amongst others on Monday 6th December, 2021.
He also promised financial support to farmers and stated his administration’s commitment to create a Fish market at Okegun-Odofin area of the Local Government. The revival of Oko-Oba market is also one of the Administration’s agenda next year.

The Council Mayor enjoined farmers to imbibe this rare opportunity to boost their business next year. He also stated the ongoing steps taken to engage the State Government in funding large scale Agriculture within the Local Government and its environs. The Chairman encouraged farmers to speak up and seek for assistance when needed.

Hon. Olowa finally admonished the gathering to ensure adherence to all stipulated COVID-19 protocols like constant hand washing, use of nose masks, use of alcohol based sanitizers and to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

In the same vein, the State representative and Site Manager for National Programme on Food Security, Mr Fasuape took the farmers through planting techniques and informed the gathering that seedlings are available if required.

The Council Manager, Engr. (Mrs) Akitoye Olubunmi in her closing remark commended the farmers for their efforts in providing food for the Nation and encourage them to do more in the coming year.

Also present at the occasion were the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Mojeed Olayinka Oluwafemi, other members, Hon. Babatunde Ogungbo, Hon. Afeez Ajiwole, Hon. Aromire Rasaq, coordinators of farmers, Mr Balogun Adeshina, Mama Dorcas Kilani, Mr Agbabiaka Adewale amongst others.
