Ibeju Lekki Local Government in Conjunction with  an Non Governmental Organisation championed by  Dr. Olufemi Micheal on Thursday 11th November, 2021 Sensitized the twelve (12) Public Junior and Senior Secondary Schools students within the Local Government.

The National Campaign on CULTISM and DRUG Abuse is an annual  programme endorsed by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affair to  help in tackling the menace of Cultism and incessant  Drug usage among students at all levels.

The Council Chairman Hon. (Engr.)  Abdullahi Sesan Olowa in his opening address affirmed that Cultism has been in existence for so long and concluded it is an ill wind that blows no good: The Council Mayor opined that as future leaders, students have vital roles to play in the society; there involvement, however, should be devoid of illicit activities and for them to imbibe the style of our forebears like Obafemi Awolowo who achieved greatly without the influence of Drugs nor Alcohol but through hard work and dedication.

The Council Chairman equally affirmed that cultism has left the four walls of the higher institution and now rampant in almost every strata of the society, as this is a serious problem bedeviling the society which affects the moral standards of Students and other Nigerian Youths.

Furthermore, the Council Mayor applauded the efforts of the teachers for ensuring that they maintain high moral code among the students and equally thanked the convener  of the laudable programme, Mr. Olufemi Micheal for his doggedness tackle the spread of Cultism and Drug Abuse in Schools in the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs within the State.

Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa also seized the opportunity to reel out what his administration’s plan is on boosting the degenating standard of Education: He stated his commitment in  reviving engaging programmes  like the Literary and Debating competition, Library to boost reading culture,  Sporting programmes and other activities to totally engage and groom  students within the Council Area for future responsibilities.

The facilitator in his response  eulogized the Council Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa and upheld that he is indeed a political disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo on progressive politics; he equally appreciated the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu for his foresight and visionary ideals towards students of the State charging them to chart a course for themselves in order to have a clear cut edge in life and to totally shun ill vices rampant amongst nowadays youths.

Mr. Micheal advised student participants to engage in vocational skills as an alternative means of preparing them for the future

Also at the occasion were the former supervisor for Education, Hon. Temitope Sofwan, Council Manager, (Engr.) Olubunmi Akitoye, the Council Treasurer, Mr. Onabanjo Sunday, the Head of Education Department who gave the vote of thanks and Management Members amongst others.
