The Council Mayor of Ibeju Lekki, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa today 23rd September, 2021 met with Community Leaders, CDC/CDA representatives and Traditional rulers as they dialogued on the way forward towards restoring electricity supply in various communities that has being in darkness in the Council Area.
Some of the issues identified in the course of the meeting which results in power failure were inadequate transformers to serve to serve  Communities, vandalization of cables and pilfering of transformer kits, rust of transformer owing to its closeness to the ocean in the case of Orimedu, lack of office space in Ibeju Lekki zone for EKEDC staff and inadequate personnel among others.
Engr. Abiola Olowu expressed delight on the invitation of the Council Mayor and advised the members to cooperate with him in order to have a successful administration. He identified other sources of Electric failure as much  current load from the Ajah distribution point which altered the course of dedicated lines for Eleko – Coastal area. He however, praised the Council Chairman for his sagacity and affirmed that with the steps he has taken so far, the issue of power failure will be resolved before the year runs out.
EKEDC Zonal Manager, Engr. Gbenga Adeshina who is also at the meeting enlightened the people that the Electric Power company is no longer in the hands of the Federal Government and as such, it is a profit oriented venture.
The Council Mayor, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa tasked the EKEDC representatives to ensure that prepaid meters are sourced as this will encourage the people to pay for services rendered.Hon.Olowa reiterated that his Administration is ready to partner with the power company to ensure prepaid meters come in due time.
The Council Mayor further affirmed and applauded Communities that purchased their own transformers to which he promised that the Local Government Administration will help in activating those transformers to restore power in the affected communities.He further assured that his administration will also provide transformers and that the exercise will be in phases.
Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa affirmed that a committee will be set up to look into all the requests made and the way forward for Ibeju Lekki to move away from perpetual darkness.  Regular updates will be given to citizens of the Council Area to put their mind at rest.
