EID-EL-FITR 2020 CELEBRATION ADDRESS

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, IBEJU-LEKKI LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

EID-EL-FITR 2020 CELEBRATION ADDRESS

The beautiful month of Ramadan and the activities therein are symbolical representations of some major fundamental principles of living. During this month, as the muslim faithfuls fast, we see deliberate adjustments from many as more attention is paid towards godliness. There is usually a major attempt to exhibit piety and other traits that promote humanity such as selflessness. All of these are not far fetched as evident in the following verse of the Holy Qur’an;

“Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness”, -Quran 2:183.

On the account of the above extract, I would seize this avenue to implore our muslim brothers and sisters not to lose grip of the resolve that has ensured such a display of steadfastness throughout the holy month of Ramadan. Rather, let us continue to push ourselves further as we attempt to be the best and most godly version of ourselves beyond the holy month and the Eid celebration.

It is pertinent at this juncture to reference our new norm; the compulsory adjustment of our life patterns to the demanding requirements of a Coronavirus threatened world. In our country, Nigeria for example, we have been served with pronouncements that have mandated such protocols as compulsory social distancing practices, wearing of nose-masks, stricter personal and environmental hygiene practices and more.

These new norms are not ones to be toyed with as our survival and that of many depends on the choices of each and everyone of us. In this light, I urge everyone to go about our celebration with strict adherence to the COVID-19 precautionary directives.

Please continue to avoid congregational worships for now, say your Eid prayers at home. Remember to ask that God in his infinite grace helps us to proffer a lasting solution to the notorious virus sooner rather than later. Also remember those at the forefront of the battle. Their selflessness is reminiscent of the strength of man when we stand together for humanity.

At this point, I pray that Allah accepts all our efforts as acts of worship, and reward us abundantly. May we see the end of this pandemic sooner than envisaged.

On behalf of the members of the Executive, Legislative, Management and Staff of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, I congratulate our muslim community on the successful completion of the Ramadan fasting, and wish everyone a memorable Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

Please celebrate responsibly. Happy Eid-El-Fitr.

HON. DR. SEMIU OLORUNKEMI SURAKAT
EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, IBEJU-LEKKI LOCAL GOVERNMENT, LAGOS STATE.
